General Paul Anderson

A member of a local gentry family, General Anderson (1767- 1851) took part in the Napoleonic Wars as part of a Scottish regiment, and was Aide-de-Camp to Sir John Moore. According to one local historian, General Anderson was fond of telling boring stories about his military past, so when a memorial was erected to his memory his relations had the lettering carved so small, and positioned so high, as to make it impossible to read.
