The organ here in Waterford was built by Thomas Elliot of London,
and was installed in 1817 by Alexander Buckingham and was originally
positioned in the west gallery. In 1889 the organ was moved to the
north-east corner of the nave and this meant that the sound did
not carry well and it could not be seen properly.
In 2003 Irish organ builder Kenneth Jones from Bray, County Wicklow
restored this fine and only example in Ireland of an Elliot organ
to the highest standard. It is now possible for many esteemed organists
to perform organ recitals either solo or with other instrumentalists
in Waterford city.
This beautiful organ has three manuals, 38 stops including couplers,
pedals, pipes, a blower a swell box, pistons and a CCTV! All you
have to do is to climb a pretty spiral staircase to get to the gallery
to reach it. The organ casing itself is made of solid mahogany and
the pipes are made of gold-leaf. It is now positioned in the west
end of the nave closer to where it was originally sited
