Magnificent Stucco Plasterwork

Ceiling & Reredos

The ceiling and Reredos (area behind the Altar) is a fine example of 18th Century Stucco plasterwork. The original ceiling which may be seen in the Ante-Chapel area, towards the rear of the Cathedral, is Baroque in style.
The plasterwork in the Nave was originally identical but was replaced because of fire damage in 1812. This is Rococo in style which is more ornate than the Baroque it replaced.
