First Communion and Confirmation Photographs from the
Annie Brophy Photography Collection

The exhibition will consist of a selection of First Communion & Confirmation photographs from the 1920s to the 1970s from Annie Brophy life’s work. This will be the 10th exhibition from the Annie Brophy Photographic Collection owned by Waterford City Council. Where possible, the children in the photographs will be fully identified. The subjects will not be limited to Waterford City and County as Miss Brophy’s clients came from all over the South-East and further afield. The exhibition will include a few surprises, so do come along to see these faces from the past on one of their most important-and happy-days. You’d never know who you might recognise!
This exhibition has been grant aided by the Heritage Council and will run during National Heritage Week, which is co-ordinated in Ireland by The Heritage Council with support from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. National Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 40 countries across Europe.

“In really bad weather the decision to fly is about asking; ’Can we save a life?’ As a crew we weigh-up the situation; size of vessel, visibility on a mountain, lots of factors. If someone says they are uneasy, chances are someone else is thinking the same thing. In the end I make the call.”
‘A Year in the Night of Waterford’ consists of 52 photographs taken by T.V. Honan, which capture and celebrate people working at night in a variety of roles. The exhibition is free and will be open daily until July 30th, excluding Sundays. Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm Saturday 10am - 4pm
